Liverpool closed the gap at the top of the Premier League to three points after thrashing Leeds 6-0 on Wednesday night.

The Reds ran riot at Anfield against their relegation-threatened visitors and led 3-0 by half-time thanks to two Mohamed Salah penalties and a Joel Matip goal.

Liverpool added another three after the break as Sadio Mane hit a double and Virgil van Dijk added a sixth.

That result means that Liverpool are just three points behind leaders Man City, who lost 3-2 at home to Tottenham at the weekend in a thrilling game to re-open the title race.

Leeds now run the risk of relegation as they are just three points above the relegation zone.

That’s because Burnley earned a crucial victory at home to Tottenham to move up to eighteenth, just two points from safety with a game in hand.

A 71st minute goal from Ben Mee gave Burnley a 1-0 victory over a Tottenham side who inexplicably went from beating the leader to losing to a relegation struggler in the space of three days.

This result was a big blow for Tottenham‘s top-four chances. They remain in eighth place, seven points behind Man Utd in fourth.

They do have two games in hand on Man Utd but they are also three points adrift of Arsenal, who have played one game less than Spurs.

Arsenal play Wolves at home in a crucial Champions League clash on Thursday.

In the other game in the night, Watford‘s own chances of staying up were hit as they lost 4-1 at home to Crystal Palace. Moussa Sissoko equalised after Jaan-Philippe’s opener but Conor Gallacher and a Wilfried Zaha double earned a big win for the visitors.
