A rugged style with refined elements makes this a comfortable casual outfit for the rest of winter.
Wool Blend Top Coat
If you’re only wearing your overcoats when you’re dressed up in the winter months, you’re massively wasting their potential. Sure, they’re stock gentleman over a suit, but they’re also a rakish way to upgrade an otherwise outdoorsy outfit away from Dick’s Sporting Goods and more towards Taylor Stitch. The one shown is a favorite out-of-production budget pick from Kenneth Cole that I’ve been featuring for over 4 years.

The Sienna Flap Pocket Shirt
Many men will pass right by an orange button up shirt thinking it’s far too flashy of a color. But, interestingly, it wears very much like an earth tone when paired with more subdued colors. So go on, add some sneaky color to your wardrobe.
The shirt shown here is the legendary Sweater Shirt from Faherty. It is spendy, for sure, but very likely one of the most comfortable button up shirts you can buy, with the outside having a soft, textured, stretch feel and the inside having a very smooth t-shirt feel. Altogether it’s a lightweight all-day comfortable shirt that justifies it’s price tag when you divide it out by its inevitable cost per wear.

Raglan Sleeve Henley
The staple that can be worn a million ways. Raglan sleeves – those that are connected at the neck instead of the shoulder – add a touch of interest and complements the chest with a flattering shape.
Budget
Target, $14
Few places beat Target’s Goodfellow brand in terms of availability and price.
Shown
Faherty, $98
The Cloud Henley was the first thing I owned from Faherty and is what convinced me to try the Sweater Shirt. The most expensive henley I’ve owned truly does have a cloud-like quality to it. It’s almost more like a squishy foam than a t-shirt. That probably doesn’t sound too appetizing but it really is a delight to wear. Does it justify the $80 difference in pricetag from the Target option? Few henleys could, but if you’re already spending ~$70 on premium henleys, the extra step up to the Faherty provides a noticeable difference.
Tapered Faded Black Denim
More so than any other shade, including dark indigo, a faded black or charcoal pair of jeans is easily my most worn and purchased color. It’s easy to dress up or down, and when going for a pair with the worn faded element, it can de-crisp an outfit with darker jet black jeans.

Brown Leather Boots
Brown leather lace up boots. The staple of staples. The classics of classics. These more rugged-soled boots are my Chippewas that I’ve had for over seven years. I’ve had them so long (and are still one of my favorites), that mine have seemingly outlasted the model’s production. While the 121 year old American company is still in business, it appears they have phased out their lifestyle selection while dealing with the market and production side effects of the last couple of years.
Budget
Golden Fox, $160
However, Golden Fox comes through with a similar style. They’re one of the most budget-friendly American-made boot brands you can find and are regularly recommended as cost-effective substitutes for brands like Red Wing and Wolverine.

Wolverine Axel Boots, $399
The now-classic 1000 Mile silhouette gets beefed up with a chunky Vibram sole. They’re a recreation of an original 1914 design and are made in the US with American-made Horween leather.
