15 Best Clubs in Mombasa (Mombasa Nightlife)

0

If you’re planning a trip to Kenya, I highly recommend you visit Mombasa. The coastal city and surrounding neighborhoods have beautiful beaches, watersports centers, historical sites, and wildlife sanctuaries. In addition to these tourist attractions, there are numerous hotels, bars, and clubs in Mombasa for an unforgettable nightlife experience.

Mombasa is the gateway to other coastal destinations and is one of my favorite places in Kenya. On my way to Diani, Watamu, and Malindi, I always stop to explore the ancient city for its cuisine, rich history, culture, and traditions. I particularly enjoy visiting its bars and restaurants, which serve Kenya’s most delicious Swahili dishes – including my favorite, biryani chicken.

While there are several places to go clubbing in Mombasa city center, the top nightlife spots are found in its other neighborhoods. These vibrant areas, including Nyali, Bamburi, and Shanzu, are popular among local travelers and tourists for their proximity to beaches and accommodation facilities. They’re also home to many great places to eat, classy nightclubs, and some of Mombasa’s most unique beach clubs.

15 Best Clubs in Mombasa

To help you maximize your experience during your visit to one of Kenya’s top tourist destinations, I’ve put together this Mombasa nightlife guide. It includes a list of the best 15 clubs in Mombasa to enjoy cocktails, beers, wines, scenic ocean views, bar bites, and places to hang out.

These clubs are also perfect for unwinding after exploring Mombasa’s beaches, museums, nature parks, and marine life. My selection is based on the atmosphere, quality of drinks, music, location, my opinion, and customer reviews on Google and TripAdvisor.

1. Moonshine (Best Club in Mombasa Overall)

Georgia Mint Julep cocktail served in a metallic traditional cup.

Located at the Reef Hotel in the Nyali neighborhood, Moonshine is one of the best clubs in Mombasa. The beach bar is a perfect place to hang out, especially after sunset, for great music, dancing, and enjoying various drinks. It offers everything from cocktails to local beers; catering to locals and tourists seeking an unforgettable night out.

I’ve been to Moonshine multiple times. Overlooking the magnificent Mombasa Beach, this club treats patrons to breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. The in-house DJ plays various genres of music to suit the atmosphere and diverse clientele, with a predominant focus on Kenyan tunes, bongo flava from Tanzania, and Afrobeats from West Africa.

If you prefer a quieter environment, I suggest heading to the Tanga Bar and Grill, which is located in the same hotel. Here, you can enjoy delicious nyama choma (grilled meats) and local beers while being entertained by a live band. They also have occasional performances by popular local artists.
