About our 2023 Distinguished Alum, Tania James

At our Literary Debutante Ball on Thursday, April 27th, we’ll be honoring Distinguished Alum Tania James who published with One Story in 2007 (Issue 88, “Aerogrammes”).

Tania is the author of three works of fiction, most recently the novel The Tusk That Did the Damage (Knopf). Tusk was named a Best Book of 2015 by The San Francisco ChronicleThe Guardian, and NPR, and shortlisted for the International Dylan Thomas Prize. Her short stories have appeared in The New Yorker, GrantaFreeman’s AnthologyOne StoryOxford American, and other venues. She is an associate professor at George Mason University, and lives in Washington DC. Her forthcoming novel, Loot, will be published by Knopf in June 2023.

We’ll be celebrating Tania and Loot with a delicious custom cocktail inspired by the novel, designed by Christopher Hermelin, host and mixologist of the podcast So Many Damn Books. Recipe below!

LIKE CLOCKWORK

2 parts vodka
1 part guava juice
1/2 part lime juice
1/2 part mint simple syrup

Pour over ice and garnish with a sprig of mint.
