ABC apologises over incorrect picture

The ABC has apologised for publishing an incorrect picture in a story on an alleged murder.

“On the ABC 7pm NSW news bulletin and News Online on Thursday an incorrect image was used to depict Jerome McNamara in a report of his charge in relation to an alleged murder. The person shown in the image has no connection with the case, and the image was immediately removed from all ABC platforms as soon as possible,” ABC said on a statement.

“The ABC apologises to the person depicted in the image for this error.”

Last year Seven published an incorrect photo of a man when reporting the arrest of Terence Kelly following the abduction of four-year-old Carnarvon girl Cleo Smith.

It later apologised but was forced to settle a lawsuit as a result.

Media Watch host Paul Barry at the time noted, “Mistakes are easily made. But they’re also easily prevented. And Seven really needs to get its act together and take a breath before publishing.”
