Go, Mary! Twenty-five years ago today, the “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul,” Mary J. Blige, shook up the industry when she dropped her third studio album, ‘Share My World!’ The album, which dropped in ‘97 received two GRAMMY nominations for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for ‘Not Gon’ Cry’ and Best R&B Album, which gave us countless bops!

Earlier today, fans discussed their favorite songs, and of course, ‘I Can Love You,’ featuring Lil Kim, made the list. The song samples Kim’s song, ‘Queen B***h’ from her debut album, ‘Hard Core.’ Another song fans mentioned was ‘Everything,’ which is another sample from The Stylistics’ song, ‘You Are Everything.’ Although fans have shown Mary love online for her incredible body of work, she hasn’t been active on social media. Her main concern seems to be her newest upcoming accolade, receiving Billboard’s Icon Award.

Last week, Mary confirmed the prestigious honor, stating, “My career has been such an incredible and unexpected journey that has included many turns into avenues I never could have imagined like acting, producing, launching businesses, and now even my own music festival.”

She continued, “Through it all, I always, one way or another gravitated back to my first love, music. To be recognized in this way at this moment, with the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards, is an incredible honor and one that I am truly humbled by.” If you’re not familiar with the award, Billboard recognizes artists who “achieved excellence on the Billboard Charts and have made an indelible mark on music” with their Icon Award honor.  Congrats Mary! Roommates, drop a comment and tell us some of your favorite songs from ‘Share My World!’
