Manchester United recorded one of their most positive results of the season so far on Saturday, securing a dramatic 3-2 victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo was the match winner for that one, scoring a superb hat-trick.

Prior to the Spurs game, Ronaldo missed the Manchester derby due to a hip issue, but looked fighting fit upon his return to the starting XI.

Man Utd did have to deal without the services of Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw against Spurs.

Fernandes was ill and it was later reported he had Covid, and manager Ralf Rangnick admitted over the weekend that it will be a last-minute decision to determine whether he can feature versus Atletico.

Luke Shaw should be back in training on Monday, but Alex Telles might still be given the nod at left-back.

The situation surrounding McTominay is better as he is in contention to start after being left out on Saturday due to a calf problem. Rangnick has confirmed that the club wanted to give him a few more days to recover.

David de Gea will start in goal behind a back four of Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire and Telles.

Nemanja Matic will be the man to drop down to the bench to make way for McTominay, who will join Fred and Paul Pogba in the midfield three.

Marcus Rashford didn’t enjoy a great game against Spurs so he might drop out also, with Anthony Elanga given a chance to impress alongside Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.
