Manchester City travel to Goodison Park for face Frank Lampard’s Everton off the back of their first league defeat in 16 games.

Pep Guardiola’s side had won 14 and drawn one of their past 15 games before their 3-2 defeat to Tottenham, but that result has allowed Liverpool to close the gap to just three points.

With the Reds not playing this weekend due to their involvement in the Carabao Cup final, it serves as the perfect opportunity for Guardiola’s men to stretch out their advantage once more.

Harry Kane’s masterclass at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium proved why the Citizens were so desperate to sign him last summer, but they’ll have to find a way to win without a recognised striker again on Saturday evening as Gabriel Jesus is still an injury doubt.

As are Jack Grealish and Cole Palmer, so Phil Foden is expected to play as a false nine once more. However, given the defeat, Guardiola is likely to turn to his top scorer for the season, Riyad Mahrez, who didn’t start against Spurs.

The Algerian will slot in on the right flank, meaning Bernardo Silva will move back into midfield and Ilkay Gundogan, who also scored against Tottenham, will perhaps unfairly drop to the bench.

Predicted Man City Starting XI vs Everton

Ederson will play behind the first choice back four of Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, and Joao Cancelo, while Rodri will continue his role as the No.6.

Kevin de Bruyne and Silva will play either side of the Spaniard, with Mahrez off the right, Raheem Sterling off the left, and Foden occupying the space through the middle.
