Some upsetting news for fans of The Batman who were excited about the expansion of the universe.

Director Matt Reeves served up some bad news about the planned Gotham prequel show focusing on the police in the fictional city.

Matt explained that HBO Max has shelved the show.

He said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, “One thing that we’re not doing that I was gonna do… So, there’s the Gotham police show, which, that one actually is put on hold. We’re not really doing that.”

The show was first announced in July 2020 with Matt describing the show as, “You start to see the story through the POV of these corrupt cops, and one in particular. And the story is actually a battle for [the cop’s] soul.”

While this Gotham police spinoff series might not be a go, there’s another The Batman spinoff show that is currently being teased!
