Blackhawks remove captain Jonathan Toews from injured reserve

Jonathan Toews is set to return to the lineup Thursday night after the Chicago Blackhawks removed their captain from the long-term injured reserve.

Toews has 19 points — four goals and 15 assists — in 43 games with the Blackhawks during the 2021-22 campaign, his 14th season with the club that drafted him third overall in 2006.

The 33-year-old Toews sustained a concussion on Jan. 26 during a game against the Detroit Red Wings. He also missed the entire 2020-21 season due to a chronic immune response syndrome.

Chicago also removed defenceman Riley Stillman (left shoulder) from the injured reserve and Tyler Johnson (artificial disk replacement surgery) from the long-term injured reserve.

The Blackhawks (19-27-8) are 14th in the Western Conference and host the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night. You can watch the game on Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet NOW starting at 8:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. MT.
