All fans want consistency, but which AFL sides bring it?

Season 2022 has been full of highs and lows, except for Melbourne, who have dealt with their issues well enough and are doing enough to win their games.

What teams and fans want is some consistency but ultimately know it won’t be there every week.

But what frustrates is when a side put in a fantastic performance against a team who had been playing well, then don’t turn up the next week and lose to a team who had done nothing for a month.

Already, Collingwood’s loss to West Coast looks even worse the more they keep losing. Hawthorn lost to St Kilda by ten goals, then beat Geelong and have since lost to Sydney and Essendon, who had barely turned up on a weekly basis.

We should expect that, on any given week, a team could produce the best they have to offer and surprise a few – it just infuriates supporters knowing they can do it but not every week.

The Demons have a system and they say to the opposition, “Beat us at our own game”, which if you look over the years has been the benchmark for the top teams. They work out a way to win.

As much as we would like to know what we are going to get from our teams on a week-to-week basis, we go to the football with excitement at the prospect of our team playing well and getting the four points.

Seeing certain results on a weekly basis that helps your team’s ladder position is what makes this competition so exciting.

There are about ten teams who have shown they both deserve to make finals and don’t deserve to make finals, which at least makes for an interesting season.

I guess if a team is going to play well, next week you better just hope it’s not against your team.
