With IPL 2022 returning to India, the Grand Finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium set a record of the most-attended match in white-ball cricket history. A total of 1,04,859 people attended the match besides guests, celebrities and over a thousand security forces. Here at InsideSport, we take a look at 5 Big Records that were broken in IPL 2022.

Fastest Indian bowler (Umran Malik): Nicknamed Jammu Express, the young pacer from Kashmir lit up at the big stage. With bowling searing yorkers at 153 KPH to picking up 22 wickets with his pace, Umran Malik became a superstar in IPL 2022.

His 157 KPH delivery against Chennai Super Kings became the fastest delivery ever bowled by an Indian pacer. He held the record until the final when Lockie Ferguson bowled 157.3 KPH delivery to Jos Buttler.

Most Sixes hit (1062): If pacers ruled the roost, the batters were not far either. A record 1,062 sixes were hit in IPL 2022. It is the highest number of sixes by a country mile. In IPL 2022, a total of 872 sixes were hit which stood for just two years. In IPL 2022, it rained sixes. On average, 14 sixes were hit every match.

Jos Buttler hit the most with 45 sixes while Liam Livingstone (34) and Andre Russell (32) were not too far behind. As for teams, Rajasthan Royals hit the most sixes with 137.

Furthermore, a record number fours were also hit. A total of 2,015 fours were hit in IPL 2022.

Most Runs by a foreigner in a season (Jos Buttler): Jos Buttler hit centuries for fun and scored runs as if it was his last season. If he had not run into a rough patch in the middle of IPL, he could have become the first batter to score 1000 runs in an IPL season.

But even then, Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler ended up with 863 runs. He surpassed David Warner’s record to score most runs by a foreign player.

Most wickets by a spinner (Yuzvendra Chahal): Although pacers occupied most places in the Purple Cap leaderboard, two spinners fought till the end for the title. Rajasthan Royals’ Yuzvendra Chahal bagged the Purple Cap with 27 wickets, breaking the record of Imran Tahir for most wickets in a season by a spinner. Tahir bagged 26 wickets in IPL 2019 for Chennai Super Kings.

Record crowd (1,04,859): IPL 2022 returned home and so did crowd to the stadium. Although capacity was capped at 25% initially, at later stages, the cap increased to 50% and then in the Playoffs, a full capacity crowd was allowed.

But it was the final, that set the record. at a 132,000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, 1,04,859 was the official attendance for the GT vs RR Final match. It became the most-attended cricket match in history.

The previous record was of 1,00,000 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata when India vs Pakistan match was played. In recent times, Australia vs England Boxing Day Test in 2013-14 season saw an attendance of 91,112 people on Day 1.
