The CDC Restates Recommendation For Face Masks On Public Transportation Despite A Federal Judge Overturning The Mask Mandate

Last month, a federal judge in Florida ruled that the requirement of citizens to wear masks on public transportation was unlawful, overturning the mask mandate that was in place for public transportation. Now the CDC is reiterating its recommendation that people still wear their masks on planes, buses, and trains.

According to the Associated Press, on Tuesday, health officials restated their previous recommendations of wearing masks on public transportation. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says Americans that are two-years-old, or older should wear face-fitting masks to help stop the current spread of COVID-19, and future projections of any other cases of the virus.

The CDC has asked the Justice Department to appeal the previous ruling, which they reportedly did. However, the CDC nor the Justice Department have offered any comments or information on the appeal.

As previously reported, last month Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle stated that the CDC had “exceeded its authority” with the mask mandate.

Although it was stated that the CDC continued to recommend that masks be worn, it didn’t take too long for some airlines to drop mask requirements. United Airlines and Alaska Airlines were the first to announce relaxed requirements on domestic flights following the ruling made by Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle.

After the airlines made their announcements, ride-sharing super giant Uber lifted the mask requirements for riders and drivers. However, it was mentioned that masks may still be required by law in some locations, and in those areas, the rules will apply. Despite the ruling, some transportation services, such as New York City’s MTA, required passengers to still wear masks.
