After Son’s Death Cristiano Ronaldo to Miss Liverpool Clash

Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Manchester United’s Premier League match against Liverpool on Tuesday due to the death of his newborn son.

Ronaldo announced the news on social media on Monday, eliciting an outpouring of love for the striker and his family from around the world. Ronaldo will not play in United’s vital match against arch-rivals Liverpool, the club said on Tuesday.

“Family is more important than anything, and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones during this extremely difficult moment,” United said in a statement on its website.

“As a result, we can confirm that he will not play in Tuesday’s match against Liverpool at Anfield, and we reiterate the family’s desire for privacy.

“We are all thinking of you, Cristiano, and extending our love to your family.”

Ronaldo and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez confirmed last October that they were expecting twins in a social media post.

They announced the birth of their daughter at the same moment they announced the death of their son.

“It is with great grief that we must inform you that our baby son has died. It is the most agonizing pain that any parent can experience “Ronaldo and Rodriguez stated in a joint statement.

“Only our baby girl’s birth has given us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to express our gratitude to the doctors and nurses for their exceptional care and assistance.

“We are all crushed by this loss, and we respectfully want privacy during this terrible time.”

The pair, who met at Real Madrid, has a four-year-old daughter together, while Ronaldo has three other children.

Ronaldo’s Manchester United teammates also expressed their condolences.

“Thoughts are with you and Georgina, brother, I’m so sorry,” forward Marcus Rashford tweeted.

David de Gea, the goalkeeper, responded to Ronaldo’s statement with a simple heart emoji.

“All of us here at Liverpool FC express our heartfelt sympathies to you, Georgina, and the family,” the club said in a tweet.

Ronaldo hit a hat-trick in Manchester United’s 3-2 triumph over Norwich at Old Trafford on Saturday.

His absence will be a big blow to United, who are looking to strengthen their top four prospects against Liverpool, who can leapfrog Manchester City to the top of the table if they avoid loss.
