Real Madrid came from two goals down at half-time to beat Sevilla 3-2 in a thriller, thus going 15 points clear at the top of La Liga.
Sevilla raced into a two-goal lead in the first half thanks to strikes from Ivan Rakitic and Erik Lamela.
Ronaldo or Messi: Who has scored more hattricks?
But Madrid were a different side after the break, with Rodrygo pulling a goal back on 50 minutes.
And the away side then struck twice in the last seven minutes to win the match. First Nacho equalised on 83 minutes before that man Karim Benzema scored the winner two minutes into added-on time.
It is the latest comeback by a Madrid side that has made a habit of late recoveries at home and abroad in recent months.
Madrid are now 15 points clear over Barcelona, who do still have two games in hand. Sevilla stay third, also 15 points behind Madrid and now looking over their shoulder.
Earlier on Sunday Atletico Madrid earned a big victory in the race for the top four as Yannick Carrasco scored a penalty 10 minutes into added-on time to give them a 2-1 win over Espanyol.
Carrasco had earlier seen his opener cancelled by Raul de Tomas’ equaliser.
Atletico thus recovered from the disappointment of their Champions League elimination to Man City to take control of fourth place.
They were aided by results elsewhere.
Fellow top-four chasers Real Betis and Real Sociedad failed to win on Saturday as they drew 0-0 against each other in the Basque Country.
This means that Atletico are in fourth, three points above Betis in fifth and five points above Real Sociedad in sixth.
Villarreal stay in seventh after winning 2-1 at Getafe. Gerard Moreno and Manuel Trigueros completed a great week for the Yellow Submarine after they made it into the semi-finals of the Champions League by defeating Bayern Munich.
Athletic Bilbao’s European hopes were hit as they lost 2-0 at home to Celta Vigo.
Valencia‘s frustrating season continued as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Osasuna.
At the bottom of the table, Elche continued to move away from the drop zone by beating Mallorca 3-0.
Nineteenth-placed Levante gave themselves some hope of avoiding the drop by winning 4-1 at fellow relegation candidates Granada.
Bottom-of-the-table Alaves also won by beating Rayo Vallecano 1-0.
Barcelona host Cadiz on Monday, before there is a midweek round.
