Eden Hazard won’t take part in Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final tie against Chelsea through injury, denying him a reunion at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian forward was forced to undergo a fibular plate operation, which will see him side-lined for the clash.

He is one of several injuries for Real Madrid, although they will still be able to call upon the men who helped them to a remarkable comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the last round.

As for Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel is still without Ben Chilwell and Callum Hudson-Odoi, but Reece James is expected to start following his cameo off the bench in the 4-1 defeat to Brentford on Saturday.

Chelsea will most likely revert away from the back four that didn’t work against Brentford and play the tried and tested 3-4-3 formation that helped them to beat Real Madrid in this competition last season.

N’Golo Kante could be dropped following his performance against Real Madrid, but Tuchel may opt to keep the Frenchman in the starting XI thanks to his display against Los Blancos last year. Christian Pulisic will also come back in following a late return from international duty.

Real Madrid are likely to keep virtually the same starting XI as the one that beat PSG in the second-leg, although Federico Valverde could lose his place to Casemiro, who didn’t feature in the win.

Carlo Ancelotti is expected to name a back four of Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, David Alaba and Ferland Mendy, but Carvajal could lose his place to Lucas Vazquez depending on which direction Ancelotti opts to go in.

The experienced trio of Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric will be tasked with feeding Marco Asensio, Karim Benzema, back to full fitness, and Vinicius Junior.
