Manchester United lost more ground in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League table as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Leicester.
Ralf Rangnick’s side had to come from behind to take a point at Old Trafford, with Fred’s strike cancelling out a Kelechi Iheanacho opener in the second half. Indeed, had it not been for James Maddison having a goal overturned in the closing stages, the result might have been worse.
It was another concerning performance from the Red Devils, who looked utterly toothless and took the decision to start Marcus Rashford on the bench despite the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The draw means that they are sixth in the standings on 51 points, three points behind Arsenal having played two games more.
There is also now some doubt over Chelsea’s position in the top four after they were subject to a remarkable 4-1 home defeat against Brentford. The game was scoreless at half-time but Antonio Rudiger seemed to have put the Blues on course of victory. That could have not been further from the case as the Bees roared back to claim a famous with, with Christian Eriksen on target.
Brentford have moved onto 33 points and look safe from relegation trouble while Chelsea remain third.
The Blues lost more ground on the runway pair of Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the standings. The Reds kicked off the weekend with a 2-0 win over Watford, while Man City responded in kind by defeating Burney.
It was not a good weekend for the sides at the bottom of the table, with Norwich only able to secure a 0-0 draw against Brighton, who saw Neal Maupay put a penalty high. As a result, Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Southampton has carried them a little close to safety.
West Ham host Everton on Sunday before Newcastle travel to Tottenham.
Crystal Palace’s Monday meeting with Arsenal rounds off the weekend.
