Second seed Swiatek entered the summit clash after a straight set victory over Jessica Pegula, while Osaka fought her way back against Belinda Bencic in the semis with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. • Swiatek, who became the World No.1 earlier this week is having a terrific year as she is on a 16-match win streak.
• She started the year by reaching the semi-finals of the Adelaide International, where she was defeated by Ashleigh Barty in straight sets.
• Swiatek then made another semi-final appearance at the Australian Open. She lost the contest to America’s Danielle Collins in straight sets.
• However in the Dubai Tennis Championships, she crashed out in the second round after losing to Jelena Ostapenko.

• This was perhaps her last loss in the WTA tour as she then won the title at Qatar Open.
• At the Indian Wells Masters too she made it all the way to final and defeated Maria Sakkari in the summit clash to win the title.
• At Miami, she has shown her terrific form, as she is yet to lose a single set in the tournament.
• She has comfortably defeated Viktorija Golubic, Maddison Brengle, Coco Gauff, Petra Kvitova and Jessica Pegula to reach the final.

• Meanwhile, Osaka, who last won a WTA title in the Australian Open 2021, had to battle mental health struggles and took sometime away from the game, that saw her slip to 77th postion in the world rankings.
• She hasn’t had a great start to this year as she suffered a lower abdomen injury that saw her pull out of the semi-final contest in the Melbourne Summer Series.
• She came back in the Australian Open and suffered a third round exit.
• Her next tournament was the Indian Wells Masters, where she suffered a second round defeat against Veronika Kudermetova, in a game that saw her being heckled by a spectator that reduced her to tears.
• She has however made a terrific comeback at Miami. Until the semi-final, she didn’t lose even a single set and stormed past opponents like Astra Sharma, Angelique Kerber, Alison Riske and 9th seed Danielle Collins.

• In the semi-final she was put to test by Belinda Bencic, who won the Tokyo Olympic gold last year. Despite losing the first set, Osaka showed terrific fighting spirit as she on the next two games to book a spot in the final.
• She will now be eyeing to win her maiden WTA Title since 2021 Australian Open.
