The case between 10 News First reporter Tegan George and Network 10 reached the Federal Court today with her lawyer confirming a sexual discrimination claim will be lodged with the Australian Human Rights Commission.
The Daily Telegraph reports it as a mandatory legal step that must be made for George to continue her action against her employer in the Federal Court.
George has been on leave since June last year alleging she suffered stress and humiliation during her employment at 10.
Her case alleges a Breach of General Protections in the workplace which 10 has vehemently denied.
George’s lawyer told the court the legal proceedings “have taken slightly longer” given her client remains in hospital seeking medical treatment.
Justice Katzmann told the court: “I assume the respondent will go into mediation with a genuine desire to try and reach an amicable settlement”.
Fair Work proceedings “were not being actively pursued at the moment”.
The case continues.
