Real Madrid built on their midweek victory over Paris Saint-Germain by easing to a 33-0 victory against Mallorca away from home on Monday, thereby moving 10 points clear at the top of La Liga.
For a time, it seemed that Madrid might struggle to get the win, but after 55 minutes Vinicius Junior put them into the lead. Karim Benzema then scored twice thereafter to ensure a comfortable conclusion to the match for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who have El Clasico next weekend.
Elsewhere, it was a good weekend for Madrid as second-placed Sevilla could only draw 1-1 at Rayo Vallecano. Bebe opened the scoring for Rayo, with Thomas Delaney earning Sevilla a point on 63 minutes.
Meanwhile, Barcelona continued their fantastic recent form with yet another win over Osasuna.
The Blaugrana look to be building something special as they made it four wins in a row in La Liga on Sunday by defeating Osasuna 4-0.
Ferran Torres opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 14 minutes, before doubling Barca’s lead on 21 minutes.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continued his excellent start to his Barcelona career by making it three on 27 minutes before substitute Riqui Puig finished things off with a fourth on 75 minutes.
Barcelona have closed the gap to five points on Sevilla in second place and they still have a game in hand.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Real Betis grabbed a crucial 1-0 win in their fight for a top-four spot by beating Athletic Bilbao 1-0. Borja Iglesias scored the only goal of the game.
Betis are two points behind Atletico Madrid in fourth. Atletico won 2-1 over Cadiz on Saturday, with Joao Felix and Rodrigo De Paul scoring the goals. Alvaro Negredo replied for the visitors.
Real Sociedad kept up their top-four pursuit with a 1-0 win over Deportivo Alaves thanks to Martin Zubimendi’s goal.
Also on Saturday, Villarreal kept up their good form by beating Celta Vigo 1-0, Getafe and Valencia drew 0-0, Elche won 1-0 at Granada and Levante and Espanyol drew 1-1.
