The Braxtons group musical career
In 1989, Arista Records signed Toni, Traci, Towanda, Trina, and Tamar Braxton to their first album contract.
Good Life, their debut single, was released in 1990. As a fivesome, it would be their sole single.
The group’ age discrepancies posed a marketing issue at the time of the single’s release.
The Braxtons were dropped from Arista Records as a result.
Toni Braxton, excluding her four sisters, was chosen and signed as the label’s first female solo artist at a 1991 showcase with Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, who were in the midst of launching LaFace Records.
The remaining members were informed at the time that LaFace was not seeking a new female group because it had just signed TLC.
