Manchester United are sweating over the fitness of Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Saturday’s crucial Premier League game against Tottenham at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese superstar missed the Manchester derby due to a hip problem and subsequently travelled home to Portugal to recuperate.
According to FootballTransfers, Ronaldo went to Portugal with his future very much on his mind as he was reportedly furious when informed that he would not be involved against Manchester City.
He has returned to training this week, but it is away from the group as he continues his recovery individually.
Man Utd have a crucial Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid next midweek, so he may be kept fit for that. We could see him off the bench against Spurs, though.
This game could be vital in the race for the top four as Man Utd are currently in fifth on 47 points, while Tottenham are in seventh, on 45 points.
Ronaldo may not be fit to start, but Man Utd have been boosted by the return to training of both Raphael Varane and Edinson Cavani.
Varane has been in Covid isolation, while Cavani had a groin issue.
David de Gea will start in goal behind a back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.
Fred and Scott McTominay may be given the not in a more solid midfield. Paul Pogba gained an assist in the Manchester derby but was withdrawn just after the hour mark so he may be left out.
Bruno Fernandes started the last game up front and that experiment didn’t work so he will move back into the attacking midfield three alongside Anthony Elanga and Jadon Sancho.
With neither Cavani nor Ronaldo fully fit, Marcus Rashford could start in the centre-forward role.
