How do you wind down once you climb into bed? Lately I’ve been queueing up hilarious podcasts while wrapped in our beloved Brooklinen sheets. But I’m always curious about what others do to slow down their minds at night. Here are four tips, plus the staples I swear by for a good night’s sleep…
1. Start with fresh sheets. Sometimes I’ll take an evening shower just because nothing feels better than shaved legs and clean sheets, don’t you think? Brooklinen’s classic percale sheets are super crisp (they feel like the cool side of the pillow), and their buttery smooth luxe sateen sheets get softer after each wash. (Also, wouldn’t heathered cashmere bedding make the ultimate holiday gift?)
2. Watch something light and funny. At the end of the day, I need a way to turn off my brain. So, I like reading novels or magazine articles that make me laugh. “Every time I get in bed, I think, ‘Tonight is the night I will read my book!’” filmmaker (and former CoJ editor) Stella Blackmon told us. “But then I end up watching fan edits of Gilmore Girls on YouTube until midnight.” For evening relaxation, prop yourself up against a mound of fluffy down pillows. They come in three versions — firm, mid-plush and plush — so you can find your perfect squish. (I recommend their bestselling mid-plush!)
3. Light a candle. In the winter, we set up a scent station in our bedroom (with the help of nine-year-old Anton), and the ritual of lighting the match reminds us to slow down and breathe. This candle smells like eucalyptus and basil, and I love the Rise candle for an energy burst in the morning.
4. Take a hot bath. Stylist Linda Rodin says her bath is the only place she can fully tune out: “No magazines, no music, no phone.” Once you step out of the tub, warm yourself in these classic waffle robes. Made out of 100% Turkish cotton, they’re fast drying and super absorbent. (They’d also be perfect for visiting friends and family.)
Great news: Brooklinen is kicking off their Black Friday sale. Get 20% off your order, no code required. See everything here, if you’d like — including their elegant linen sets and super-plush towels.
Thoughts? How do you wind down for a restful sleep? I’d love to hear…
