Today, American Short Fiction launched a new collaboration with Texas Monthly: a semi-regular series of short stories from Texan authors edited by ASF Coeditors Rebecca Markovits and Adeena Reitberger and copublished in ASF Online and Texas Monthly‘s print and digital editions. Texas Monthly has chronicled life in the Lone Star State for almost half a century and reaches a combined monthly audience of over 34.6 million.
“This partnership marks a new chapter for American Short Fiction,” says ASF Coeditor Rebecca Markovits. “After thirty years of publishing out of Austin, we’re delighted that we’ll be able to further promote the art form of the short story, broaden our readership in Texas, and support impressive new fiction from Texan writers.”
The first story in this series, “Playing the Ghost,” is by Corpus Christi native Bret Anthony Johnston, author of the novel Remember Me Like This and the director of the Michener Center For Writers at the University of Texas at Austin. You can read the full story here.
