Chessable Masters final – Praggnanandhaa vs Ding Liren: India’s hopes to win an event on Champions Chess Tour are alive. 16 year old R. Praggnanandhaa won the second game against World No. 2 Ding Liren in the final of Chessable Masters online rapid chess tournament on Wednesday.

Chessable Masters final: Praggnanandhaa keep India’s hopes alive to win an event on Champions Chess Tour, draws level in the 2nd game vs Ding Liren

Praggnanandhaa vs Ding Liren – Final TIED at 1-1: Praggnanandhaa’s two extra-pawns in the endgame proved too much for the strongest Chinese in the world.

Ding Liren gave up after some staunch defence. He was on the white side and decided to offer a draw after 58 moves.

In the first game – Ding Liren was is full control. Praggnanandhaa battled a lost cause right from the onset. He sacrificed a knight, but eventually resigned in 42 moves giving the World No. 2 HEAD-START in the final.

Praggnanandhaa vs Ding Liren – Praggnanandhaa Chessable Masters: The 16-year-old from Chennai showed off all his skills as he simply overpowered the super-strong Dutch No.1 Anish Giri in the Semifinal.

That set up his summit clash with China’s World No. 2 Ding Liren, who stunned World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen in the other semifinal.

Praggnanandhaa took lead with a checkmate in the second game of the best-of-four games semifinal encounter.

But after two draws, Giri, a Dutch GM of Nepalese origin, returned the favour in the must-win fourth game to draw level at 2-2.

The triumph made Praggnanandhaa the first Indian to reach the title-clash of an event on the Champions Chess Tour.
