French Open Day-5 LIVE: Tennis action gets heated up at the Roland Garros as the Day 5 of the Grand Slam event on Thursday is all set to witness top players in action in the second round. Casper Ruud vs Emil Ruusuvuori
Casper Ruud who is looking to win his maiden Grand Slam title, takes on Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round. The Norwegian defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the opening match of the tournament in four sets. Ruud, who is in a good form by entering the tournament after winning the Geneva Open title is looking to go deep into the tournament. Ruusuvuori meanwhile enters the second round after winning against Ugo Humbert in a five setter in the first round. Ruud is the overwhelming favorite in the contest.
Daniil Medvedev vs Laslo Djere
World No.2 Daniil Medvedev won his first match on clay this year by defeating Facundo Bgnis 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round at the French Open. The Russian, who had to undergo hernia operation, was out of action for the last two months. He made his return ahead of the French Open at Geneva, where he faced first round exit against Richard Gasquet. He has however showcased his good form in the first round and will look to continue it throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, Laslo Djere defeated Ricardas Berankis in straight sets in the first round. Medvedev is the favourite against Djere in the upcoming match.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Zdenek Kolar
Last year’s finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas will look to put on a much better show in the second round when he faces Czech’s Zdenek Kolar. The fourth seed lost the first two sets against Lorenzo Musetti in the first round and then came from behind to win the next three sets and book a spot in the second round. Considered to be one of the contenders of the title, he will look to live up to his billing and get back to his best form.
Meanwhile, 25-year old Kolar, who entered the tournament as a qualifier, defeated Lucas Pouille in the first round in four sets to enter his maiden second round of any Grand Slam event. He will face a tough challenge against a player who is ranked fourth in the world.
Women’s Singles
Iga Swiatek vs Alison Riske
Iga Swiatek, who is searching her sixth title this year will face Alison Riske in the second round of the French Open. Swiatek continued her terrific form in the first round of the tournament as she dropped just two games to defeat Lesia Tsureko.
Meanwhile, Riske too won her first round contets against Dayana Yastremska in straight sets to make it to the second round. With the form which Swiatek is showing at the moment, it will be difficult for Riske to stop her.
Paula Badosa vs Kaja Juvan
Second seed Badosa, who is regarded as one of the contenders for the title, takes on Kaja Juvan in the second round of the Grand Slam event. Badosa too displayed her terrific form in the fist round as she defeated Fian Ferro 6-2, 6-0 in the first round. Badosa has struggled before the start of the French Open by making second round exits at Madrid and Rome, She was however at her lethal best in the first round and will look to continue her good performance.
Juvan defeated Oksana Selekhmeteva in the first round in straight sets to make her second round appearance. Juvan entered the French Open after finishing as runner up at Strasbourg last week. Despite being in a good form at the momet, she will be put to severe test against third seed Badosa.
