Liverpool‘s hopes of winning the Premier League – and a historic quadruple – took a massive hit on Saturday evening as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham.

Despite dominating the first half, Tottenham came more into the match in the second half and took the lead with a well-worked move that led to Son Heung-Min tapping in.

Liverpool poured forward and equalised with a deflected Luis Diaz shot on 74 minutes. But they created little thereafter and had to settle for a point.

That result means that although Liverpool go top on goal difference, Man City can go three points clear if they win their game in hand on Sunday against Newcastle. There will then be three games left to play of the Premier League season

The draw also did little to help Tottenham‘s Champions League chances as they are one point behind Arsenal in fourth, having played a game more.

Manchester United’s hopes of finishing in the top four were officially ended after they were humiliatingly thrashed 4-0 by Brighton.

Goals from Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard mean that United can’t finish higher than sixth.

They also broke a string of records for all the wrong reasons as they achieved their lowest-ever points tally, most goals conceded and worst goal difference in a Premier League season.

Third-placed Chelsea have not yet sewn up Champions League qualification as they threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to Wolves.

Romelu Lukaku scored twice – his first Premier League goals in 2022 – but late strikes from Trincao and Conor Coady in injury time earned the away team a 2-2 draw.

At the bottom, Watford were relegated to the Championship after losing 1-0 at Crystal Palace. Wilfried Zaha scored the only goal from the penalty spot.

Burnley‘s hopes of beating the drop took a big blow as they lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa. That means they could return into the bottom three on Sunday.

In the other game of the day, Brentford beat Southampton 3-0.
