- He has a 20-1 win-loss record. Nadal started the season by winning the Melbourne Summer Set, defeating America’s Maxime Cressy in straight sets in the final.

- At the Indian Wells Masters, he was once again at his best. In his semifinal match against Carlos Alcaraz, he suffered a rib injury, but continued and won the game.
- In the final, he faced a straight set defeat against Taylor Fritz, which finally brought to an end his 20-match win-streak.
- After missing Monte Carlo Masters and Barcelona Open, he returns to Madrid after recovering from rib stress fracture and will look to continue his brilliant run this year.

- Meanwhile, Kecmanovic entered Madrid after bowing out in the semifinals of Munich Open, where he faced 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 defeat against Botic van de Zandschulp.
- His semi-final appearance in this tournament has been his best-ever performance so far this year.
- He started the year with a second round defeat at Sydney International. He reached until the fourth round in the Australian Open and once-again faced a second round exit at Argetina Open.
- He then made five consecutive quarterfinal appearances at Rio Open, Chile Open, Indian Wells Masters, Miami Open and Serbia Open.
