I love this time of year in Arizona. Mornings are stunning and honey mesquites are laden with caterpillar-like yellow flower tendrils. A cool breeze sends their pollen floating through the air as the ground beneath them becomes a carpet of gold.
On two separate early dawn walks now, I have watched a mockingbird chase a grasshopper into the sky. I stop, amazed at the scene unfolding before me. Their graceful dance results in the grasshopper losing for it is no match for the bird’s skill. Grey and white mockingbird soars ever higher, off to his nest to share his prize with his hungry mate.
