Pep Guardiola’s men were made to wait a while before breaking the deadlock against Brighton at home but eventually ran out 3-0 winners.

Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring on 53 minutes before Phil Foden doubled the advantage on 65 minutes. Bernardo Silva added a third goal on 82 minutes.
City thus return to being one point ahead of Liverpool with six games left of the season.

The Gunners won 4-2 at third-placed Chelsea. Eddie Nketiah scored twice and Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka (penalty) also found the net for the visitors. Timo Werner and Cesar Azpilicueta replied for the hosts.
Chelsea are five points above the north London duo, having played a game less.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, Newcastle are all but safe from relegation and have reached the 40-point mark after beating Crystal Palace 1-0. Miguel Almiron scored the goal.
Everton earned a precious point in the fight against relegation as a 93rd minute Richarlison goal gave them a 1-1 draw at home Leicester. Harvey Barnes opened the scoring early in the match.
