IPL 2022 DC wins Preview of the Match
After missing the first half of the season due to injury, he was replaced as captain of the team last season. The franchise did not retain the 27-year-old, who was acquired by KKR at auction. Iyer was one of the architects of the Delhi franchise’s resurgence in the IPL, having led them to their first-ever final in 2020.
He has six points from four games as Knight Riders’ captain. Their only defeat came at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The Capitals, on the other hand, have lost back-to-back games after a winning start and are now seventh in the league.
Both Pant and Iyer are regarded as potential India captains, and it will be interesting to see how they perform. The wicketkeeper-batter, on the other hand, maybe feel the strain with only one game under his belt.
After losing to the other new team, the Gujarat Titans, the Capitals lost a close match to the new entrants, Lucknow Super Giants.
While the return of pace spearhead Anrich Nortje from injury bolstered the bowling unit, the South African, who hadn’t bowled since the T20 World Cup in November, looked understandably rusty.
Despite having a plethora of options, the bowling unit has struggled, allowing runs against Gujarat Titans and LSG. They need to do a better job complementing Mustafizur Rahman’s performance.
Their batting unit has also looked disjointed, with skipper Pant expected to do the majority of the work with the willow once again.
The Capitals will rely on Prithvi Shaw, who hit 61 off 34 balls against LSG, and veteran opener David Warner to provide a solid start, as their middle order has yet to inspire confidence.
KKR enters this match confident after beating Mumbai Indians with an impressive 16-ball 56 from Pat Cummins.
The defending champions appeared to be a well-oiled machine capable of handling any situation.
Umesh Yadav has been in imperious form, putting in impressive powerplay performances, and he and Australian Cummins form a formidable pace attack that can trouble Delhi’s inexperienced batters. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine, both spinners, can also turn up the heat.
Venkatesh Iyer shone with the bat in the previous game, but the seasoned Ajinkya Rahane is struggling, and it will be interesting to see how long the team management sticks with him. Skipper Iyer would be looking for a big score as well.
The batters have responded favorably to the Brabourne pitch. With the dew factor unlikely to have an impact on the day game, captains may be tempted to bat first DC wins by 44 runs over KKR.
