- Sindhu started the year with a shocking defeat in the semifinals of the Indian Open. She however won the Syed Modi International title.
- Her form then dipped as she made two back-to-back second round exits from the German Open as well as the All England Championships.
- She was eager to make a comeback following the disappointments and did it in style by going all the way to win her maiden Swiss Open title.
- Sindhu has carried that form in the Korea Open, and is on an eight-match unbeaten streak. She is yet to lose a single set in the tournament as she had stormed past Liam Lam, Aya Ohori and Busanan Ongbumrangphan in straight sets in the first three rounds to book a place in the semifinals.
- Meanwhile An-Seyoung is having a terrific year. She started the season by reaching the semi-finals of the German Open, where she went down fighting China’s He Bing Jiao in straight sets.
- She then went one step ahead to finish as the runner-up at the All England Championship, by losing the final to Akane Yamugachi in straight sets.
- She has now once again reached the semifinals and will have a huge support of the home crowd when she takes on Sindhu.
Sindhu vs Seyoung Head-to-Head: Sindhu is yet to win a single game against the Korean as An-Seyoung leads the head-to-head contest 3-0. They last met during last year’s BWF World Tour Finals and Sindhu lost the contest 12-21, 16-21. Sindhu will be eager to clinch her first victory against the World No.4, while Seyoung will be keen to continue her good run and reach the finals of the tournament, which is ongoing at her own country.
