Scottie needs a helping Xand
World No 1 Scottie Scheffler was brought down to Earth – before he set foot on the Augusta course.
Scheffler has won three of his last five starts, to top the world rankings.
But when dropping off his motor before the first round, he was told by the car park attendant: “Nice to meet you Xander!”
He had been mistaken for Ryder Cup team-mate Xander Schauffele, who looks nothing like him.
He opened his bid for win No 4 this year with seven straight pars.
But two thumping blows on the par-five eighth left him with a 20-footer for eagle. Scheffler, 25, failed to convert but then had a tap-in birdie.
And when he sank the 12-footer for his second birdie on the ninth, and a share of the early lead, it looked business as usual.
He bagged a third birdie on the 12th – but cooled off and signed for a three under-par 69.
