On March 26, the Indian Premier League 2022 kicked off (Saturday) Five Famous IPL knocks. The 15th season began with the two finalists from the previous edition, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The competition is now split into two virtual groups of five teams each for the first time.

The seeding system for the division was determined by the number of titles won and the finals played. Not to mention the addition of two more clubs, the Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, making the IPL a ten-team league.

Meanwhile, each season sees several spectacular knocks, some of which, sadly, do not result in a victory. Despite their valor and bravery, these batters’ efforts have not always been fruitful. They do, however, receive praise for their performances, which is a small consolation.

Five Famous IPL knocks

Let’s take a look at Five Famous IPL knocks that resulted in losing causes on this list.

1. Suresh Raina Scored 87 against KXIP in 2014.

This mind-boggling innings from Mr. IPL is still vivid in everyone’s mind, especially Raina’s and the Yellow Army’s fans’ minds. CSK came close to crossing the finish line because of the brave effort of the southpaw (87 off 25 balls). Punjab, on the other hand, was forced to play its first IPL final due to a collapse in the bottom middle order.

2. Wriddhiman Saha – 115 vs KKR

Wriddhiman Saha had only joined the party a few days prior to Suresh Raina’s exploits. Saha undoubtedly produced the best innings of his life in the Punjab team’s inaugural IPL final. KXIP batted first after losing the toss and got off to a slow start.

Both the captain (George Bailey) and the centurion (Virender Sehwag) from the previous game were back in the pavilion in the first five overs. With the score at 30/2, Saha teamed up with the in-form Manan Vohra to keep the innings alive.

KKR, on the other hand, responded by crossing the line with three balls to spare. Manish Pandey sealed the deal for the Purple Army, much like Saha’s stunning innings. In 2014, the Knight Riders finally won their second IPL title

3. Yusuf Pathan – 100 vs MI

Yusuf Pathan was a powerful figure in the 2010s. In his first two IPL seasons, the cricketer had made a name for himself. In fact, the batter had established himself as a key member of the Rajasthan Royals’ lineup (RR). Yusuf had a strike rate of 165.67 during the 2010 season.

The Pathan show was unfortunately cut short due to a run-out. RR lost their way once he left, and the game was decided by only four runs.

4. Sanju Samson 119 vs PBKS

Sanju Samson’s battling knock was one of the greatest in the IPL 2021. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) took against the Rajasthan Royals in the tournament’s first match. PBKS got off to a great start after electing to bowl first. KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda joined forces at 89/2 to put up a 105-run stand. With both players hitting the target cleanly, PBKS set a magnificent target of 222.

Samson single-handedly controlled the chase, scoring 36 of the remaining 42 runs in just 14 balls. However, he was unable to watch the team return home. With the side needing five runs to win, he was caught off the penultimate ball. Seven sixes and 12 fours were hit by the centurion (119 off 63 balls). Samson was selected Player of the Match despite the loss for his amazing effort.

5. MS Dhoni 84 vs RCB

MSD was CSK’s best middle-order batsman from IPL 2017 to IPL 2019. Captain Cool was known for promoting himself to front the batting order. In the 2019 match against RCB, however, the captain had to nearly single-handedly lead CSK’s difficult run chase. The yellow army limited the host team to 161 runs by forcing the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to bat first. Bangalore scored a challenging total thanks to wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel’s half-century. In response, the Yellow Army’s top four batters were eliminated cheaply with only 28 runs on the board when they came into bat.

RCB’s tantrum, however, did not lose them the game when MSD missed his cut stroke outside off. Umesh Yadav’s off-cutter resulted in a dot-ball, as the non-striker was run-out while attempting to steal a base. Overall, it was one of the rare times that MSD went unbeaten (84* off 48 balls) while CSK lost “inputs from www.crictracker.com”.
