IPL 2022 Orange Cap: Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis and David Warner in race to win orange cap this year – Follow updates

Right from the time when IPL kickstarted in 2008, the orange cap was introduced, which would be awarded to the highest-run scorer of the tournament. Throughout the season, the orange cap holder will be changing and the one who finishes on top of the run chart once the season ends, will get an award in the replica of the orange cap and he will also be awarded 10 Lakhs as prize money.

Rules for IPL 2022 Orange Cap:

1. The Orange Cap is offered to the leading run-scorer of the season.
2. The batsman with the most runs in the tournament during the season would wear the Orange Cap while in the field.
3. In case of a tie, the batsman with a better strike rate is awarded the Orange Cap.
4. The Orange Cap owner who is fielding is allowed to wear the Orange Cap till the end of the innings even if an opposition batsman has overtaken his runs.

In the last edition, Chennai Super Kings’ Ruturaj Gaikwad finished as the highest run-scorer of the season with 635 runs in 16 games. His opening partner Faf du Plessis came very close finishing just two runs behind him as their successful partnership at the top played a crucial role in helping Chennai Super win the title.

This year Ruturaj Gaikwad will look to put up a good show while Faf du Plessis has become the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and look to perform well with the added responsibility. The duo will face stiff competition from two-time orange cap winner KL Rahul and David Warner who is the only player to win the orange cap thrice.
