Barcelona will attempt to bounce back from their midweek disappointment against Galatasaray when they tackle Osasuna at home in La Liga on Sunday.
Barca face a sterner test to qualify than expected in the Europa League following a 0-0 draw at Camp Nou with the Turks. It was a game they dominated but they were unable to find a breakthrough in.
Interestingly, Xavi fielded a strong team in that game. Memphis Depay started in attack and Eric Garcia was deployed in the heart of the defence, but on the whole it was Barcelona’s strongest available XI.
With a premium having been put on the club’s league performance, it would be surprising if there were to be dramatic changes for a match against a mid-table side who will not lightly be written off.
Certainly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is likely to come back into the attacking line, where Ansu Fati continues to miss out. He should join Ferran Torres and Adama Traore in the starting XI.
The midfield is at full strength save for the suspended Nico Gonzalez, who was given the chance to start in midweek because of this upcoming ban. Sergio Busquets could take his place.
Similarly, there will be a serious injection of experience in the defence. Garcia will drop out to the benefit of Gerard Pique, with Dani Alves, who is not registered to play in European competition, coming back at right-back to replace Sergino Dest.
On the injury front, Barcelona are not too badly affected. They will be without Sergi Roberto again, while bit-part player Samuel Umtiti and Alejandro Balde continue to miss out.
They will have some strong options of the bench for this game, with Memphis and Ousmane Dembele among them, while Luuk de Jong offers them the chance to change their offensive style if the situation demands it.
