Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said the missiles, which travel over three times the speed of sound before splitting into three darts, will help Ukraine shoot down Russian military aircraft. 

Mr Wallace said: “This system will remain within the definition of defensive weapons but will allow the Ukrainian forces to better defend their skies.”

It comes as the UK Defence Ministry said the large convoy of Russian troops, northwest of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv has made little progress in over a week. 

The biggest talks so far in the conflict are also due to take place today, between Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.
