6 Healthy Frozen Smoothie Pack Recipes

These smoothie recipes are some of my very favorite for smoothie packs. They freeze well, are kid-approved and give a lot of variety in your smoothie choices. They all taste very different and include different fruits to help expose your kids to different flavors. I have so many other smoothie recipes on my site, but these are the best to start with!

Best Supplies For Making Frozen Smoothie Packs

You don’t need a lot of supplies to make these frozen smoothie packs, but I have found there are a few things to have that make it easier. I’ll also give options for bags to store your smoothie packs in other that single-use plastic.

Containers/Bags: I love reusable bags like Ziptop and Stasher. They are definitely more expensive, and so if you aren’t ready to invest in those, here are some other options:

  • Single-use ziploc bags – if you are just using these for smoothie packs, you can actually reuse them! When you are ready to make your smoothie, empty the contents of your bag into your blender, rinse and reuse!
  • Glass mason jars – pint size mason jars are a great size for an individual smoothie. They freeze well and are airtight. The downside is they take a lot of freezer space and it can be difficult to remove the smoothie ingredients because they can stick to the glass.
  • Freezer Deli Containers – these stack well and are pliable to get your smoothie ingredients out easier.
  • Reusable Silicone Bags – these are a non-branded silicone bag that is much less expensive than other brands. They stand up on their own which makes filling them really easy!

How to Make Frozen Smoothie Packs

Let me show you how to prep these smoothie packs. I always put spinach in my smoothies. It’s a sure fire way of getting some greens in my diet for the day. I do a packed cup of spinach in a sandwich size zip-top bag. It makes the smoothie vibrant green and you don’t even taste it with all the different fruits in there.

Next I put in half of a banana because they are cheap and delicious. I cut mine up into 1 to 2-inch pieces so that it mixes easier in the blender.

Next you put in 2 cubes of frozen Greek yogurt to give the smoothie a creamy texture and add protein to help keep you full. Do do this, I put plain, non-fat Greek yogurt in a sandwich bag, cut off the tip, and squeeze it into an ice cube tray to freeze. (**You will have to do this the night before you assemble your smoothie packs.) It’s less messy than just spooning it into the tray. Tap the tray on the counter to get rid of any air bubbles before you freeze it. One of my yogurt cubes is equivalent to about 2 Tablespoons of yogurt.

Next you add one cup of frozen fruit. I’ve been digging mango and strawberries lately, but it’s more green if you have mostly light colored fruits, so I did some frozen pineapple too.

Voila! You are done! Squeeze out the air, zip up the bag, and freeze it. Repeat to make as many bags as you want/need.

Making Smoothies from Your Frozen Smoothie Packs

To make the smoothie, pour 1 to 1 & 1/4 cups of water or milk (cow, almond, coconut, whatever you want) in a blender. Add one smoothie pack. Blend until smooth, adding more liquid, if needed for desired consistency. One smoothie pack yields about one 2-cup smoothie. Enjoy!

I recommend using a silicone ice cube tray to easily pop the ingredients out after frozen. This silicone ice cube tray is my favorite and each section holds 2 tablespoons.

Assembling Freezer Smoothie Packs

  • In a freezer safe bag, add all the smoothie ingredients except for the liquid. Place flat in the freezer. Repeat for additional packs. Label the outside of the bag or container with the name of the smoothie and the amount of liquid that you need to add when ready to make the smoothie.

Making a Smoothie from Frozen Smoothie Packs

  • When you are ready to make your smoothie, pour the needed amount of liquid according to the recipe in a blender. Add one frozen smoothie pack and blend until smooth, adding extra liquid if desired to preferred consistency. Serve cold and enjoy!
