PV Sindhu [IND] vs Busanan Ongbamrungphan [THA]
PV Sindhu, who last won the Syed Modi International Championships, will be looking to add another title to her crown at German Open. She will face a stiff challenge against World No.11 Busanan Ongbamrunghan of Thailand in the opening contest. However, it’s Sindhu who has the upper hand in head-to-head matches. The duo had last met in French Open where Sindhu won in straight sets.
Saina Nehwal [IND] vs Jia Min Yeo [SINGAPORE]
World No.25 Saina Nehwal will play 16th ranked Jia Min Yeo of Singapore in the opening contest of the German Open. The duo has only played once in 2018 where Nehwal thrashed her opponent in straight sets. The contest gives Nehwal a chance to get back to form after injury and fitness has left her reeling for more than six months. She will look to make amendments after losing to Malvika Bansod in an embarrassing exit at Indian Open.
Lakshya Sen [IND] vs Kantaphon Wangcharoen [THA]
India Open champion Lakshya Sen will be vying for the maiden German Open title after a scintillating start to 2022. He will play lower-ranked Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand in the opening battle. The duo will meet each other for the second time after Lakshya beat his rival in straight sets at the All England Open last year. He was the only positive in the recently concluded Asia Championships Teams Asia competition.
Kidambi Srikanth [IND] vs Brice Leverdez [FRA]
Former World No.1 Kidambi Srikanth will play 39th ranked Brixe Leverdez of France in opening game. He is expected to easily overcome his French opponent and sail into the second round. He already enjoys a 3-0 record against his opponent and last met each other at the All England Open in 2019. Kidambi had been phenomenal during World Championships before losing Loh K. He will look to repeat his magic in a bid for a BWF title that has seemed out of touch for the last few years.
