Is Sean McVay in the top ten coaches of all time?

In 2016, the-then St. Louis Rams packed up and headed back to Los Angeles where they resided for almost 50 years.

With the move, they wanted to start fresh since the team hadn’t won the division since 2003 and hadn’t had a positive point differential since then either. So, what do you do if you want to change the directory of the franchise, the offence, and the win-loss record? You hire a 30-year-old rookie coach, of course.

Enter Sean McVay, who at the time was a 30-year-old coordinator for the Washington Redskins. He became the youngest head coach in NFL history and was supposed to be an offensive guru who was going to spin this franchise around. Well, in his first season they went 11-5, won the NFC West, and doubled their points scored compared to the previous season.

That’s decent, right?

Oh, I forgot to mention his quarterback for most of that season was Case Keenum. This man took Case Keenum and a rookie Jared Goff to the playoffs after this team went 4-12 a season prior. That’s all in one season, his first-ever season as a head coach.

We now have to take a second and admire his ability to coach quarterbacks and his offensive genius. In 2018, Goff threw for over 4600 yards and 32 touchdowns, and also was selected to the freaking Pro Bowl.

I know the Pro Bowl isn’t what it used to be but turning Goff in his second year into that was unbelievable considering what he is now.

McVay’s offences also ranked first in 2017 and second in 2018 and has been in the top 11 in four of his five seasons. His play calling, offensive game plans week to week, and innovation of the game has been uncanny and deserves all the hype he’s gotten.

Now, the real question: is Sean McVay a top-ten coach of all time? It is a no brainer: yes, he is.

This man is younger than the age of 40, and has been to two Super Bowls, could have won both if he didn’t go up against the best coach and quarterback duo we have ever seen, he has led multiple first-ranked offences, won Coach of the Year, and if he decides to come back next season, he will become the Rams’ all-time winningest coach… at age 38!

I believe he is the best coach in the NFL right now based on his game planning and creativeness week to week to win games, and yes, I would take him over Bill right now.

We saw this year you give him an above average quarterback and he will win a lot of games. We saw with Goff who is average at best what he can do for a team. Sean McVay is a top-ten coach of all time in the National Football League, and if he decides to stick around for five more years, he might just sneak his way into GOAT status.
