We’re seeing some very brief windows between cinema releases and streaming lately, with Amazon Prime Video announcing Spencer, starring Kristen Stewart, will screen from Friday.
The film by Steven Knight also features Timothy Spall, Jack Farthing, Sean Harris, and Sally Hawkins.
The marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. But this year, things will be a whole lot different. Spencer is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days.
After making its world premiere in competition at Venice International Film Festival 2021, Spencer was selected to screen at a slew of leading international film festivals including Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival. For her portrayal of Princess Diana, Stewart has been nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards and Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
Directed by Pablo Larraín and written by Steven Knight, Spencer is produced by Juan de Dios Larraín, Jonas Dornbach, Paul Webster, Pablo Larraín, Janine Jackowski and Maren Ade.
